I love being vegetarian! The lifestyle has opened a new world for me. Experimenting with new food, explaining to people how it improves the environment, and feeling really good about myself. While I absolutely love all the health benefits that have come with this change, there is something else I love as well. I’ve noticed something about this journey—it has made me a better person. Here’s how.
How Becoming Vegetarian Improved My Health and Made Me a Better Person
- Because there’s no meat in my diet, I’ve learned creative alternative ways to cook or have meals. Especially so when travelling. This has made something I disliked—cooking, very exciting. Yay vegetables!
- In a quest to be more compassionate to animals, I have become sympathetic to people who feel passionately about other issues, more patient and forgiving with family and friends. Added bonus, especially with myself!
- I am helping the environment without feeling like I have to go out of my way.
- I spend less money on groceries. A common misconception about vegetarianism is that is an expensive lifestyle, I don’t know if that’s true in other parts of the world, but I have been able to save a good chunk of change here in Zambia.
- I have started taking better care of my body. Eating vegetables has made me become very aware of what kind of nutrients are in the food I eat, and if I’m getting a balanced diet. Eating balanced meals has consequently made me more energetic. Nothing like a good ol’ win win situation!
Thinking of Giving up meat?
If you’ve been thinking of giving up meat, it is certainly something worthwhile! It’s good for you, good for the animals, good for the environment! That’s a whole lot of good.
